Paste at Original Location ( Drawing Editor )

Tool summary :

  • Works just like Paste , except the copy of objects are placed back at their original coordinates on the layer you have selected in your current drawing.
  • Your current drawing can be any drawing -- it does not have to be the original drawing that the objects were copied or cut from.
  • Want to move a group of graphic objects to a different layer? Cut them, then select the layer you want to move them to, then Paste at Original Location .
  • The X-Y display can be used to confirm that the coordinates of the pasted objects are the same.

   Step-by-step instructions

1 . Before using this tool:

1a : You need to have done a Copy or Cut or Copy with Reference Point or Cut with Reference Point operation in your current drawing or in another drawing.

1b : On the layer selection tool , select the drawing layer that you want to paste to.

2 . Invoke Paste at Original Location using any one (1) of the following methods:

Method 1 : Click the Paste at Original Location icon. The icon can be taken from the group named ' Edit ' and placed on a toolbar (classic) or the ribbon (lightning).

Method 2 : If " Drawing Editor layout style " is ' Classic ', you can use the menu system to choose Edit > Paste at Original Location .

Method 3, 4 or 5 : Paste at Original Location can also be invoked using a keyboard shortcut , the context menu , or a mode . For the ' Lightning ' layout style, configuration of the interface is done using Customize Interface .

Method 6 : In Select Items Mode , right-click ( Menu ) and choose " Paste at Original Location " on the context menu .

3 . The objects most recently saved using Copy or Cut or Copy with Reference Point or Cut with Reference Point are pasted at their original coordinates , but they are now on the selected layer . Any objects that were selected before step 2 are now unselected. The newly pasted objects are now the only objects that are selected.

Tip: Since the newly pasted group of objects are selected (highlighted in another color), you can easily move them or Delete them. Or you can get rid of them using Undo .
